Ever admired the range of false lashes on the market or envied the stars on the red carpet with their long, fluttering iconic eyelashes?  I know I have but frankly – they kinda scare me as I haven’t a clue how to apply them properly or make sure they stay on in a sweaty club!

Luckily when it comes to falsies, Mary Greenwell, one of the world’s most sought-after makeup artists has some tried and tested insider tips to help the less experienced lash-queen get on her way…

“False Lashes are all the rage but we can’t pretend that application is easy!” says Mary. “So many people struggle to apply strip lashes properly and, more importantly, seamlessly.”

“Apply eye shadow and curl existing lashes before applying falsies – this will help to establish which lashes will best suit the look and prevent any kinking.”

“Use glue sparingly, but make sure there is enough glue covering the entire band – especially the ends!”

“Wait 30 seconds after applying glue to the band before attempting to apply them to the lash line – this allows the glue to dry faster once they’ve been applied, preventing the lashes moving around.”

“Always start from the inside corner of the eye and carefully work the band along the roots of the lashes towards the outer corner – this ensures that the ‘fit’ of the band is straight and that the band blends as seamlessly as possible with the lash line.”

“Instead of using fingers, set the false lashes gently on top of existing lash line with the band as close to the lash root as possible. Then use tweezers to push the band gently down onto the eyelid – this ensures the false lashes are as flush to the existing lashes as possible.”

“Apply mascara and eyeliner after false lashes are applied – this helps to incorporate the lashes into the final look, rather than them looking stuck on.”
