Kitchen Nomad – the box for food lovers
Beauty boxes are so passe…you can’t make a good meal out of them – unlike the more recent occurrence of foodie boxes.
This one from Kitchen Nomad runs on a country by country theme on a monthly basis – this one happens to be Greece! (Just as well as I was running out of olive oil) and it is LOADED with goodies – you certainly get your monies worth. You also get an insight into the country being featured and their culinary customs/habits so it’s a great way to learn about countries you have never visited. The images are so good you may feel drawn to that place to try out the food for real!
Much like a beauty box – you get a beautifully laminated card with all the product information on it and as a major plus point there are recipe cards so you can start getting creative with the products! For me I was more than happy to add the oil to my grocery cupboard, share the olives with friends when they visited and stored the spices/cassia bark for a nice stew or casserole come winter time. They are yours to get inventive with or use as kitchen basics, that is the beauty of the products they have selected.
A Kitchen Nomad box costs either £22 as a one off or on a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription basis. You can send a box or a subscription of a box as a gift – it would make a great present for a friend or loved one.
In the Greek one you are treated to;
- A large, brightly coloured tin of Kalamata Olives. Keep the tin for kitchen utensils afterwards – it’s so pretty!
- A good quality bottle of olive oil made solely from olives from the Kalamata region. It’s a little peppery but very good in salads or with balsamic and bread, perfect for getting your high quality fats in your diet.
- A bag of risotto type rice, intended for stuffing vine leaves with but also making great risotto!
- Vine leaves – a jar of ready to use vine leaves. Wrap around tasty feta, olives, falafel or whatever takes your fancy.
- A jar of freshly squeezed tomatoes. A little like passata but not strained – it’s a great base for a pasta bake or simple meat sauce.
- A bag of fresh dried figs.
- A tub of the type of spices used in Greek restaurant The Real Greek. You also get a 25% discount card to the restaurant!
- A bag of Cassia Bark – apparently more flavoursome than cinnamon and quite hard to come by.
- And my top tip for tasty salads – something no salad should be without – the humble caper. Love capers!
