How to Protect Your Body During Pregnancy
There is nothing quite like the joy of getting pregnant and the wonderful expectation of that tiny baby that will soon enter your life. However, many women worry that being pregnant will ruin their bodies that they’ve worked so hard to maintain. Even though it doesn’t lessen the joy of expecting a baby, it does cause some amount of concern somewhere in the back of their heads. The good news is, there really are things which can be done to protect your beautiful body during pregnancy.
Preventing and Minimizing Stretch Marks
There are a number of lotions and creams on the market that are purported to prevent or minimize stretch marks on the stomach. Some are extremely expensive and if you were to read the ingredients you would see that even the lower priced products have virtually the same formulation. For years women have been using cocoa butter to prevent stretch marks, which does help to minimize them, but more recently women have gone back to an age old remedy.
Lanolin is used in a huge number of udder balms for cows to prevent them from drying and cracking and so women today have turned to using the very same formulas on their stomachs as farmers use on cows. Any udder balm with lanolin, vitamins E, A and D along with aloe and/or cocoa butter should help to significantly minimize the appearance of these lines that form when the stomach expands. Keeping the skin supple can prevent some and minimize others.
Preventing Varicose and Spider Veins
Some women find that their legs swell during pregnancy and this is completely normal within certain limits. Others find that the extra weight they are carrying tires their legs quickly and as a result, they notice veins that seem to be popping through their skin. Whether from excess fluids or carrying extra weight, the result can be tiny spider veins that form or, worst case scenario, bulging varicose veins.
You can help to prevent problems with veins in your legs by increasing circulation, bringing fluids back up and through the body with compression leggings or compression hose. Leggings that were developed specifically to fit pregnant women with the support necessary to relieve aching and increase circulation can be found on this site. In other words, swollen legs reduce circulation and one of the most effective ways to prevent damage to the veins is to increase circulation. Compression leggings are designed to do just that.
Stretch marks on stomachs and varicose veins are two of the greatest causes for concern during pregnancy. Luckily there are things you can do to prevent or minimize the effects of being pregnant on those two areas so with a little forethought, you really can protect your beautiful body during pregnancy. It doesn’t take a lot of money but it does take consistency. Use creams at least twice daily and put on your compression hose prior to getting out of bed in the morning. You will be amazed at just how effective these two little tricks are. Try them and see for yourself.
