Big, Bold, Late Late Autumn Reds

According to meteorology we have just entered the winter season, however since it’s also been very mild lately, we are squeezing in the tail end of our standard bottle (750ml) autumn wines selection, before we publish our post- Christmas and New Year spread later. All these wines are suitable for vegans.

From Laithwaites:

Lobo e Falcão 2023, Tejo, Portugal, 12.5% abv

Italian for Wolf and Falcon, this fierce red coats your palette in mocha and vanilla. Made from Syrah and local grapes and matured in the famous Lobo de Vasconcelos 17th Century estate, the result is easily moreish. We recommend drinking this one alone. £13.99 per bottle.

Elephant Tree Malbec 2024, Western Cape, South Africa, 13.5% abv

This is a heavyweight wine, full of plum and rich damson flavours, yet it remains fresh tasting. The nose offers a black fruit palate, which is reminiscent of the cooler weather. Named after the Elephant Tree renowned for its ability to soak up carbon this fairtrade offering is also eco aware. £11.99 per bottle.

Pigassou 2018, France, 13.5 % abv

Made from a blend of little known varietals, this fruity and easygoing wine offers a nose of spiced raspberry and blackcurrant notes with a herbaceous twinge. The palette packs warming juicy black fruits, apt for this season. Recommended drunk alongside red and richer white meat stews. £12.99 per bottle.

And From Aldi:

Costières de Nîmes, Limited Edition 2022, France, 13.0% abv      

This limited edition wine is described as rich and full bodied, with dark red fruits and a touch of cinnamon. Certainly, the spice infusion has winter warming benefits for the chest and adds sophistication. Pair with strong flavoured meats.  £6.49 per bottle.

A country wine whose delicate white flowers and white fruits tantalise the nose of this very dry rose. Glug to hints of lychee and rose infused citrus. Pairs easily with salmon and light salads. Part of the Specially Selected range made from Grenache Gris grapes. RRP £8.99 per bottle, (currently £6.69).
