Masakatsu Kondo at the All Visual Arts Centre, London
Masakatsu Kondo’s ‘Whenever I am Silent’ exhibition at the All Visual Arts Centre, north London will end on the 31st May 2012.
Masakatsu uses oil on canvas to explore the realm between real and the perceived, and he expresses these through compelling landscapes. He invites the viewer into his word of natural and the distorted, taking you on a journey into the surreal. The result is an image resembling what should be but with subtle overtones of reality. Masakatsu is inspired by natural colours of browns, greens and blues, but never are his paintings of ‘dark’ form, as there is always a ray of light (and hope) in the message he puts across.
You will notice the garden features heavily in this exhibition, with many paintings depicting proliferations of strangling roots coming up to entwine whatever stands in their way. Masakatsu’s catalogue of thirteen painting is available for purchase from this exhibition, or by contacting the artist himself.
Masakatsu was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1962. After graduation from Slade School of Fine Art in 1993 he now lives and works in London. Masakatsu is internationally known on the solo and group circuit, competing in John Moores Exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool 1997 and 1999, and entering for the Granada Foundation Prize 1993. Selected solo exhibitions include Botany 2003, Bridge 2007.
