Staycation ideas for those who don’t want to go abroad
If travelling abroad isn’t on the cards for you this year, don’t worry. The UK has plenty of staycations on offer with beautiful views, mountains, beaches and a few cities. Global travel can feel a little uncertain and somewhat intimidating in the current pandemic climate. Some of us don’t feel comfortable travelling to ‘green zone’ countries just yet. Fortunately, the UK has a whole host of staycation spots available for you to visit this summer.
Here are some of the best places to visit in the UK if you don’t want to go abroad this year.
Lundy Island
Based on North Devon’s coast, Lundy Island is a stunning place to visit for a relaxing holiday. Explore the rugged cliffs and take a few pictures with the diverse wildlife roaming the island. This destination is also brimming with the history of pirates, scandalous families and even a bit of smuggling. There is so much to see on Lundy Island, and it’s a great one if you prefer to avoid the crowds of tourists.
Lake District
The Lake District was made in the Ice Age and now holds a grand title of a UNESCO world heritage site. You can hike mountains, swim in wild lakes or spend an afternoon at the pub with your family. There are 16 lakes in total in the Lake District, with Lake Windemere being the central point. The Lake District also offers motorhome parking for happy campers – just make sure to take out motorhome insurance for the trip.
Visit Grasmere to see where William Wordsworth strolled among the daffodils or take a hike up Hellvelyn to embrace your adventurous side. Make sure to pack some good walking boots for this trip.
Isle of Skye
Skye is the largest island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland and is a popular location for tourists and hikers. Visit the island to see some outstanding natural views and experience the magical atmosphere of the historic landscape. Scotland is always a great place to be if you love the great outdoors and spot of history.
Northumberland
If you fancy a beach holiday, take a trip up North to Northumberland. You can visit the Farne Islands, also known as David Attenborough’s favourite place to see wildlife in the UK. Or head to Bamburgh Castle for some stunning castle views with the white sandy beach as a backdrop. Of course, Hadrian’s Wall is one of the most popular attractions in Northumberland and makes a great hiking trip.
Visit Alnwick Market Town and grab a pint with the locals or head to Hexham Abbey to learn about Roman history. Northumberland has a little bit of everything and makes for a fun-filled family holiday.
Enjoy your staycation this summer and try out a new destination!
