Why you should make time for exercise at home
We all know how important exercise is but making time for it is not always as easy. If you are constantly busy during the day and find yourself exhausted at night, trying to fit in 30 minutes to an hour of workout activities can seem impossible. If you do have a break, you may just want to relax, instead of jumping on the treadmill.
Exercise is about self-care.
Try to take the pressure off working out. Staying in shape is not always necessarily about having the best body or looking a certain way. It is really about self-care. By prioritizing yourself and your own wellbeing, you can improve your physical health and emotional health. It’s good for your mood and simply makes you happier.
Getting into the right mindset
Getting into a routine and making more time for exercise depends on getting in the right mindset and prioritising yourself. Try to make it easier by getting enough sleep and the right nutrition to fuel you, setting reminders and goals and having your workout clothes nearby.
What are the benefits?
Working out can be very beneficial for the parts of your brain that regulate your stress levels and relieves depression by working with the hormones serotonin and norepinephrine. The chemicals that are released in the body as a result of exercise can also help with relaxation and improve brain function. Staying active will reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes and can even help you quit smoking.
How to avoid injuries
Unfortunately, injuries do happen. According to a recent study on injuries that occurred during lockdown, most accidents happened on the treadmill. In more severe cases, participants reported pulled muscles. Workout equipment such as medicine balls, skipping ropes and pull up bars can potentially also lead to accidents, so it’s important to be careful, especially if you exercise at home. If you have injured yourself, let your injury heal and take it easy. Make sure you receive adequate care from a doctor or you could make a medical negligence claim. Don’t feel pressured to exercise again if you haven’t fully recovered, since this could make your injury last longer.
Why its good to exercise at home
Working out in a busy gym may have some advantages, but the coronavirus has shown that exercising at home can be a great way to stay fit. For one thing its very convenient, and it also saves time and money. Another advantage is privacy which makes it easier to feel comfortable than you might in a crowded gym environment. You can loudly listen to music and have fun while nobody is watching you. If you like doing yoga, you could create a space in your home that will make you feel relaxed and more motivated.
How much should you exercise?
The NHS recommends that adults should be physically active every day and “do strengthening activities that work all the major muscles (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms) on at least 2 days a week”. According to guidelines by the NHS, a fitness workout should last at least 150 minutes a week or 75 minutes a week if you choose to work out more intensely. Intensive activities could include playing football or rugby, swimming or running.
