The best show in town – Edinburgh’s gourmet steak restaurant, Kyloe
Glamorously furnished with excellent views of Edinburgh castle – Kyloe gourmet steak restaurant and grill sits innocuously at the West End of Princes Street. Easily accessible from all parts of town and within a short walk of many Edinburgh nightlife spots – George Street, the Usher Hall and the Assembly Rooms – it’s a perfect spot to enjoy a pre-show dinner or after show extravaganza (especially if the show you picked wasn’t all that good 😉
Kyloe’s menu includes an impressive array of steaks and sauces – cooked exactly to your wishes and available with all sorts of lovely sides – including fairly epic beef dripping cooked chips! (unlikely you will have tasted chips this good before!) Choose your steak, select your favourite sauce and then load up on the sides of salad, mushrooms, potatoes or chips. If you are not sure what steak to order – the pleasant waiters and waitresses will bring over the cuts so you can see how much marbeling or how thick the various options are. There’s also a flavoursome steak board – a selection of interesting cuts chosen for their flavour; Bavette, Onglet and Marinated Feather Steak.
Wine selection is impressive – plenty to go with a good steak or one of the non-steak or shellfish mains.
I visited with someone who knows their steak very well – so it was very enjoyable for them to have a wonderfully cooked steak in such pleasant surroundings! I chose a Sirloin steak with my absolute favourite Bearnaise sauce and the steak was cooked exactly as I like it – pink all the way through. My waitress helped me choose a steak that wasn’t too deep or marbled and she hit the nail on the head. She also recommended those fabulous beef dripping chips – triple cooked for extra crunch!
The deserts were also fantastic – a vanilla parfait and a dark chocolate pot – topped off what was an already outstanding meal. Our starters we went for smoked salmon and I had grilled asparagus.
Only two very minor things I noticed – most wouldn’t notice but the cowhide chairs are a little on the itchy side through a sheer top and I prefer my asparagus nice and crunchy rather than properly cooked. But maybe that’s just me. Well placed mirrors allow you to get views out of the windows and open up the venue to lots of light. There’s also a cow sticking its head right out of the window! They do love cows here.
