Brighton House 2015
The House and Artists Open Houses art exhibitions run concurrently with the Brighton Festival that takes place every May in Brighton. House and Artists Open Houses are now in their seventh year and will run until 25 May 2015
House exhibitions showcase visual artworks by both established and emerging artists. This year the Invited (lead) Artist is Turner Prize shortlister Nathan Coley whose project can be viewed at the Brunswick Square Town House, Brunswick Square.
Amanda Loomes’ film highlights the marine aggregate and concrete industry in Sussex, whose unseen labour produces 25 million tonnes of aggregate, a contributing force in Brighton’s costal defences. To hear first hand what motivates Amanda to bring prominence to ‘silent’ labour meet her on Saturday 16th May at the Regency Townhouse, 2pm. Joseph Popper examines space travel and human exploration through film and other installations. His 1:1 model ‘The Same Face’ model uses hobby flight simulators and drone ground control to define a series of play and wonder through speculation on the intent of the visual. This short film repeats abruptly, and observers will note that the outcome of the plane’s path in this installation is left wholly to their interpretation. Joseph lives in London.
Other House contributors are Abigail Norris and Maria Pattinson, who with their City Collective collaboration ‘Edge and Shift’ with two parallel films illustrating city residents’ musings on political and personal conflicts. Their work demonstrates that effects of personal change is illustrated and reflected in events taking place in the wider arena.
Installations by other House artists can be seen at the Brighton Phoenix, Brighton Pop Up Cinema and Brighton Outside In. See www.housefestival.org for a comprehensive guide to the House event, and to learn about House’s sponsors and partners.
