4 Ways to Feel More Confident As You Age
Aging is one of the inevitable parts of life. It’s something that we can’t prevent or reverse. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t embrace it.
Since there’s very little that can be done to stop this natural process, why not continue living your life to the max as you age?
In reality, age is just a number. It doesn’t define who you are or what you can achieve.
However, with the increasing pressures from society telling us we need to look a certain way no matter how old we are, it’s no wonder that many people find it difficult to embrace aging. It’s viewed as a negative thing that puts limitations on the things we are able to achieve.
Many older people find that they have very little confidence because they no longer feel accepted by society. They start to feel useless or forgotten.
Of course, none of this is true, but it’s difficult to see past these feelings when societal pressures are becoming more and more prevalent.
To give you a little self-esteem boost, here are four amazing ways that you start to feel more confident in yourself as you age.
- Spend Time On Yourself
As an adult, you have a variety of responsibilities and jobs to complete and your schedule can get hectic. This leaves very little time to spend on yourself.
As you age, it becomes even more important to dedicate some time to self-care. Whether you enjoy getting a mommy makeover in Utah, going for a relaxing massage at the spa, or doing some retail therapy, find an activity that you enjoy and make sure to leave some time for it in your schedule.
When you focus on yourself, it can significantly boost your self-esteem and help you to feel more confident in who you are, regardless of your age.
These activities don’t necessarily have to revolve around your appearance and they don’t even need to involve leaving your house. Self-care can be practised in the comfort of your own home.
Maybe you love having long, hot, candle-lit baths to wind down after a long day. Or maybe you enjoy painting, drawing, or playing an instrument.
If there’s something that fulfils you and gives you an outlet to escape the worries of everyday life, make sure you find the time to do it every week.
- Find a Community
There is a community out there for everything. Whatever your interests or hobbies, you can easily find a group of people who share the same passions as you.
Becoming part of a community can provide you with the support and love that you need to feel more confident. This community can be in person or online. Check out the classes in your local gym or try out a new workshop. Find forums and groups online that you can join to connect with like-minded people.
This might also mean leaving behind people or communities that no longer serve you. If the group of people you currently surround yourself with are bringing you down, you may need to leave them behind and replace them with more supportive groups of people who can uplift you.
- Practice Gratitude
Gratitude is one of the best ways to boost your confidence. As you age, you might start to wish you were younger once again. You might long for some of the things that you no longer have.
But take a step back and think about all of the amazing things you have in your life right now. When you show your appreciation for everything you currently have, your mindset will shift.
You will start to focus on what is going well in your life as opposed to noticing all of the negatives that come along with aging.
Gratitude is truly transformative to your mindset and it only takes a few minutes each day. It’s been shown to cause physical changes within the structure of your brain!
When you practice gratitude, serotonin and dopamine get released in your brain, and this can make you feel happier and more motivated. They can boost your mood and give you the confidence boost that you need.
Take a pen and notepad and write down three things in your life that you are grateful for. Stick to this practice every day and you will start to notice your confidence increasing after just a few weeks.
- Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Good
Your choice of clothing can make a huge difference to your confidence. When you look good, you feel good!
Despite what many people think, your style doesn’t go out of the window when you grow older. You don’t have to automatically switch to beige coats, grey woolly jumpers, and navy flared trousers.
If you really wish to, you can wear bright orange and neon pink. If these colors make you feel happy and confident, there’s no reason why you can’t wear them!
Wear clothing that makes you ooze self-confidence. Try out some new pieces and play around with your style. Often, you can lack confidence because the clothing that you currently have in your wardrobe is outdated.
Upgrading your wardrobe can reignite your self-passion and may encourage you to start focusing on spending more time on yourself each day. Buy yourself a new jacket or some snazzy heels or some sparkly earrings and your confidence will get an immediate boost.
It’s important to note that you don’t necessarily have to spend money buying your new clothes or accessories. You can try upcycling your existing pieces to give them a new lease of life, or you could simply grab the items that you’ve previously lacked the confidence to wear and show them to love!
Of course, confidence is not solely focused on the way you look or the clothing you wear, but these things definitely play a significant role in your overall self-esteem.
